Synopsis: Liam ‘Mr. Popular’ Carter will always be the closest thing to the “walking plague” in my eyes. His cockiness seeps through his every move, and no matter how many state championships he wins with the basketball team, he will forever be a “loss” to me. Because he’s my older brother’s best friend, I’m forced to tolerate him, and he’s forced to tolerate me. In fact, unless my brother is around, we happily ignore each other every chance we get. It wasn’t always this way, though…

Several summers ago, we both attended the same summer camp. A place we returned to year after year. We became friends–close friends, but right when I thought he could possibly turn into my everything, he made it clear that what we had was nothing. Now that’s he’s a senior, and I only have to deal with him for one more year, I’ve vowed to keep repeating the same set of rules to myself. Especially since he seems so hell-bent on wanting to talk to me for some reason, and especially since he seems to be staring at me every time we’re in the same room together… –Amazon

This story was a cute story with all the type of high school drama you would expect. Liam is Mr. Popular and everyone likes him, he’s dating Miss Popular and they make the perfect couple.Though everything is not what it seems, he actually can’t stand Ashley and really wants to break up with her. Mariah is his best friend’s sister who he has a history with stemming back to summer camp when they were younger.

Their story was really intricate and had a lot of history. The flashbacks helped you see how their relationship progressed when they were younger and revealed what it was that would break them up and cause Mariah to hate Liam so much. They were pretty much best friends, it’s not till later that on that they start to rekindle what they have, but not before some events happen. You understand why they have to keep their relationship a secret from everyone and especially her brother Zach. You can see the relationship growing between them again and it’s really sweet to see how much Liam actually cares for her. To making sure to always being around and helping work at her mother’s bakery with her, he shows how much he wants her.

I enjoyed how relatable the characters were, from Liam and Mariah’s relationship troubles, her best friend Kelsey who was one of those loud types who really only was looking out for her bestie (we all have a friend like that at some point in our lives) and how her older brother was the jock type who would try to get as many girls as he could but heaven help anyone who talked to his sister. One of my favorite scenes was when Zach made Liam look for Mariah’s Diary with him to find out who she had a date with. It was such a sibling move.

Liam and Mariah’s story was such a cute romance and I really enjoyed the book. The characters were great and I think the  ending gave them the fitting end they needed.
