My 10 Favorite Trailers from E3 2018

Oh man, now that E3 2018 is over, do we have some fun and exciting trailers to go over to whet our appetites until their respective release dates. Some are releasing soon while others are, well… let’s just say that they are some distance in the future away; but all these trailers for these games we saw at E3 definitely left some kind of impression on us. Some maybe not so good, but there were definitely more awesome and exciting trailers than duds (sorry Halo Infinite and Shadow of the Tomb Raider). But from the good trailers that I scoped over the week, the following ten trailers are the ones that left the biggest impressions on me. So much so, that I have already gone and pre-ordered several of these games from my local GameStop to make sure that I can play them Day 1 when they release. Just so you know, the list is in alphabetical order, but my favorite trailer of E3 2018 was certainly the one for Spider-Man as it showed a lot of combat, a great assortment of characters, and really gave me the sense that the game really will let the player simulate what it feels like to be Spider-Man in a game of this caliber. Just so you know.

Beyond Good and Evil 2
E3 2018 Cinematic Trailer

Developed by: Ubisoft Montpellier
Published by: Ubisoft
Genre(s): Action Adventure
Platforms(s): Unknown at this time
Release date: TBA

I know this is a prequel game, but it seems that Pey’j is already familiar with the villainous Jade, the protagonist from the first game; but what happens in this game that changes Jade and how did Pey’j already know her? Unless her notoriety proceeds her attack on the ship that Pey’j is on. Either way, this trailer had me stoked for this game… as if I wasn’t enough already.

Cyberpunk 2077
Official E3 2018 Trailer

Developed by: CD Projekt Red
Published by: CD Projekt
Genre(s): Action Role-Playing
Platforms(s): Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, X Box One
Release date: TBA

I have been dying for a new trailer for this game since the initial reveal/announce trailer was released back in 2013 – and CD Projekt certainly delivered with this one. I may still have some questions about the game, but now that I know what the look and aesthetics of the world are going to be like, it definitely cemented in my mind that this was a game that I need to own when it finally releases.

Death Stranding
E3 2018 4K Trailer

Developed by: Kojima Productions
Published by: Sony Interactive Entertainment
Genre(s): Action
Platforms(s): PlayStation 4
Release date: TBA

PT was such a tease. To play through that marvelous teaser only for the game to get dropped by Konami… ugh, the heartbreak. But now that Kojima has teamed with Sony Interactive to bring this game to life, and the trailer that was shown at E3 this week that left me with as many questions as it answered… I can’t wait for this game to release just to see what this team put together for us gamers.

Fallout 76
Official E3 Trailer

Developed by: Bethesda Game Studios
Published by: Bethesda Softworks
Genre(s): Action Role-Playing
Platforms(s): Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, X Box One
Release date: November 14, 2018

It’s Fallout. I could leave it at that and many gamers would be satisfied. But I genuinely liked what I saw in the trailer for Fallout 76, though I wish we could have seen more. Still, it’s a new Fallout game, it’s a prequel to the other games, and it releases later this year just after my birthday – yeah, I’m happy with that.

Forza Horizon 4
E3 2018 – Announce Trailer

Developed by: Playground Games
Published by: Microsoft Studios
Genre(s): Racing
Platforms(s): Microsoft Windows, Xbox One
Release date: October 2, 2018

I’ve said it here before several times recently; I am more of a Gran Turismo fan than I am of a Forza fan… but that Forza Horizon 4 trailer was absolutely stunning. It was epic in its beauty and really just captivated me with the crystal clarity and resolution that was on display in the trailer – and now that I own an HD 4K TV set capable of fully taking advantage of those settings, I definitely want this game even more.

The Last of Us Part II
E3 2018 Gameplay Reveal Trailer

Developed by: Naughty Dog
Published by: Sony Interactive Entertainment
Genre(s): Action Adventure, Survival Horror
Platforms(s): PlayStation 4
Release date: TBA

I don’t care if this trailer was scripted or not, if the footage was doctored or not, if it ran on the actual game engine or what not, from what I saw of the game in this trailer, all I can say is, “Shut up and take my money!”

Resident Evil 2
E3 2018 Playstation Showcase Trailer

Developed by: Capcom
Published by: Capcom
Genre(s): Survival Horror
Platforms(s): Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Release date: January 25, 2019

The original Resident Evil 2, to this day, is still one of my favorite video games of all time. I had so much fun with that game, completing all the challenges and showing off to friends. But when this trailer started and I saw just how beautiful this game looked and how much had changed for the better thanks to technical improvements made in gaming since 1998; to say that I was stunned by what I saw would be a monumental understatement.

Skull & Bones
E3 2018 Cinematic Trailer

Developed by: Ubisoft Singapore
Published by: Ubisoft
Genre(s): Action
Platforms(s): Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Release date: 2019

I’m going to come right out and say this: I hate Sea of Thieves. It does nothing for me as a pirate game and only served to remind me what it was about Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag that I loved the most. So, now that Ubisoft is releasing their own pirate themed game with community input and all the experience that they have from working on this mechanic in previous games, this trailer really left me wanting to play this game now and immerse myself in the story and lore that will be present in the game.

Spider-Man
E3 2018 Showcase Demo Video

Developed by: Insomniac Games
Published by: Sony Interactive Entertainment
Genre(s): Action Adventure
Platforms(s): PlayStation 4
Release date: September 7, 2018

I’m not going to lie: this was my favorite trailer of E3 2018. Like, hands down, no other trailer impressed me like this one did when it was shown at the expo this week. It looks amazing, gave me the sense that the team at Insomniac really tried to immerse the player in that feeling of actually being Spider-Man, and just, wow… I have no other words that really convey how awesome I think this trailer was. It just was.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Every playable Super Smash Bros. character ever will be available to play as in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. ‘Nuff said!
