Oh, my stars and garters! I can’t believe that the last time I did a list like this was way back in March of 2019, back in the middle of Chapter 1 Season 8 – and looking back at the list I made, wow, talk about a difference in what I will be listing here. Especially when you consider all of the collab skins that have been introduced since then. I mean, we’re talking about Chapter 1 with my original list. You could even argue that Fortnite is a completely different game in Chapter 4 when compared to Chapter 1. I mean, it’s the same game, and the overall aesthetic is the same, but the meta, the skins, the island… talk about an evolution of a game. But I am getting off topic.
Personally, Fortnite is my current favorite game, so to say that I spend a lot of time playing it is a huge understatement. I could easily play Fortnite for 3 to 4 hours straight on a day when I have the availability to do so. So, I definitely spend enough time with the game to settle on a few skins that I would consider my favorites. And when you are talking about narrowing down your skins down to your ten favorites when your Fortnite locker consist of more than 470 skins, it’s a bit of a hard task. But even I will admit that I do have a certain few that I seem to default to when playing the game. So, let me share with you my favorite Fortnite cosmetic skins – the 2023 update.
Honorable Mentions: Brite Bomber, Doom Slayer, Gear Specialist Maya, Royale Knight, The Ageless
Havoc
Released in Chapter 1 Season 3 (Twitch Prime Pack 1), February 28, 2018
As one of the three oldest skins on this list, the Havoc skin is one that I had to acquire a taste for using while playing Fortnite. I usually tend to play as slimmer character builds, to easily hide and skulk my way across the map – I also tend to use more female characters because of this – but as I started to “flex” a bit when it came to being an older Fortnite player, doing The Floss while using this skin to signify my Victory Royale has become something that I have come to relish in recent times.
Lara Croft
Released in Chapter 2 Season 6 (Battle Pass), March 16, 2021
I am a huge fan of the Tomb Raider series, so when I saw that Lara Croft was going to be added to the Battle Pass as a collab skin, I was super excited. As the Battle Pass she was being added to was part of “Primal” season, I thought she was a perfect fit for the theme of the season. But when she was released and Epic showed players that she would have multiple variants which not only included her modern design, but also a Tomb Raider 25th Anniversary, a Classic design, and a Gold Anniversary variant, then I knew that I was going to love this skin – and I did.
Lovely
Released in Chapter 2 Season 5 (Hearts Wild Cup), February 14, 2021
Look, I am not going to lie; I am a huge sucker for cute skins in Fortnite, and one of the cutest skins in the game is that of Lovely. When she was introduced as part of the Valentine’s Day event for 2021 as well as being given as a prize during the Hearts Wild Cup, I purchased the skin when she first released because there was just something so cute about the skin that I wanted to add it to my collection. And since she has not returned to the Item Shop since 2021, I am happy I did as she is in constant rotation in my Fortnite Locker, especially around Valentine’s Day… obviously.
Penny
Released in Chapter 2 Season 3, August 14, 2020
In real life, I have a, let’s just say “a thing” for curvy women. To quote one of my favorite YouTube content creators Adamaru, I am part of #TeamTHICC – and that includes our love for the Penny skin in Fortnite. Penny was originally introduced in Fortnite Save the World, but she wasn’t introduced into Battle Royale until almost three years later. And I had been waiting until then for her to come to the game. So, of course I was going to add her to my skins collection. She is one of my number two favorite skin in game, second only behind my all-time favorite skin – which is featured later in this list.
Rebirth Harley Quinn
Released in Chapter 2 Season 6 (Batman x Zero Point Mini Series), April 30, 2021
If DC’s Green Lantern was a skin in Fortnite, they would take up this spot, but since Harley Quinn is my second favorite DC character, and I am a huge fan of her DC Rebirth version, the Rebirth Harley Quinn skin comes in as one of my favorite skins in the game. Truth be told, I am a huge fan of the comic book company collabs that Fortnite does, and I was super thrilled to see Harley Quinn in that game. Just to be able to cause mayhem and destruction on the Fortnite Island and pairing this skin with the right emotes and cosmetic items, and it feels like Harley is a perfect fit in this game.
Spider-Man Zero
Released in Chapter 3 Season 3 (Fortnite x Marvel: Zero War), June 8, 2022
If this variant of Spider-Man was not in the game, then the original version of the character would take up this spot. But there is something about the way that the Spider-Man Zero skin looks that makes this an absolute banger of a skin. From it’s sleek design and tech inspired aesthetic, to the slender look and updated look to the mask and coloring pattern, this Spider-Man variant made specifically for the Fortnite x Marvel: Zero War comic book mini series
Sub Commander
Released in Chapter 1 Season 3 (Twitch Prime Pack 1), February 28, 2018
Alongside Havoc, the Sub Commander skin was part of the very first Twitch Prime Pack and is one of the rarer skins in the game because of that. As such, I have taken to using the Sub Commander skin in the same vain that I have used to the Havoc skin – to flex my Fortnite “OG” status when I win. Look, I am an average player in Fortnite, at best; so when I win and I am using this skin, I do tend to show off every now and then when I do manage to capture a Victory Royale. If for no other reasons, this skin has landed itself as a favorite of mine.
Trailblazer
Released in Chapter 1 Season 4 (Twitch Prime Pack 2), May 9, 2018
There is only one skin that stand above the Penny skin in Fortnite when it comes to my favorite, and the Trailblazer skin is that one. Part of the second ever Twitch Prime Pack, ever since I got this skin, she has been my main skin in game. I would even guess that if I were to estimate just how much I have played the game using this skin, it would be in the 50th percentile. I have easily played more rounds of Fortnite using the Trailblazer skin than any other, and that is because I was a huge fan of her slim design and her color scheme, which lets me hide and bush camp in the game, heavily playing into my passive style of gameplay.
Veronika
Released in Chapter 3 Season 3 (Starter Pack), September 27, 2022
With the release of the Veronika skin in the game, it is bloody brilliant how Epic has embraced the notion that Fortnite is, as some people would say, a “dead game” – and there in lies the brilliance of it. I love that Epic has embraced this joke and have owned it by adding a skin that celebrates the notion even as one could argue that Fortnite was again gaining some popularity once again (despite how Chapter 3 was being perceived by some of the player base). Again, take into account the slim design of Veronika as well as the inside joke, and this skin has found itself in ready rotation in a lot of my recent rounds.
X-23
Released in Chapter 3 Season 4, October 9, 2022
As you can probably guess already, I am a huge comic book fan. I am also a huge Marvel fan, more so than I am of DC. And when it comes to Marvel, the X-Men characters are amongst some of my favorites. And one would think that a character like Wolverine or Psylocke or even Deadpool would take up this slot of X-Men characters featured in Fortnite, but ever since her introduction in the series Wolverine and the X-Men and NYX, X-23 has been one of my favorite characters. So when she was introduced in the Item Shop, I immediately added her to my collection and find myself using her in game more and more.
And there you have it, my ten favorite Fortnite skins, the 2023 version. I am sure that if I were to revisit this list again in another few years’ time, the list will look vastly different from this one, as this one varies from my original 2018 list. But that is the beauty of Fortnite; with its introduction of new original skins and continuing addition of collab skins, there are sure to be numerous ones added that will probably make it on this list next time. But for now, this is the way it stands.
