Hey! You there. Did you know that there are comic book companies other than Marvel and DC? No, seriously; there are numerous companies out there printing comics that reside outside of “The Big Two” companies in the industry. And these companies are responsible for some of the most popular characters in pop culture today. Companies like Image, Dark Horse, Valiant… they have been around for decades now and have introduced a bevy of characters that could easily show up and succeed in other avenues of the pop culture scene and fans would absolutely pop for it – especially if they managed to show up as future collabs with Epic to appear in Fortnite.
Oh yeah, you know it, I am making another Fortnite related list, and this time I am going to list ten of my favorite comic book characters outside of Marvel and DC that I would like to see in Fortnite. For this list, I am looking at characters outside of The Big Two who I think have a unique look and aesthetic that I think would make them popular future collabs with Fortnite who would fit perfectly within that game and lore of the game. So, sit back, relax, and let me talk to you and geek out as I discuss who I would chose to be in Fortnite from these companies.
Bloodshot (Valiant Comics)
Okay, let’s just forget about the shitty 2020 Vin Diesel starring movie based on this character – heavens know I am trying. Looking back at the original version of this character that was introduced in 1992, Bloodshot has a very unique look that I think would look amazing within the world of Fortnite. Injected with nanites that enhance all of his abilities, this character would go on to be one of the most popular characters of the 90s and beyond. And because of his connection to Valiant Comics, you might even want to bring over other Valiant characters such as X-O Manowar, Ninjak, Solar, and Livewire… just to name a few others who I think would be great additions to the game.
Hellboy (Dark Horse Comics)
I don’t think I really need to introduce you all to Hellboy here. The titular character of three popular Hollywood film adaptations, the character was introduced in 1993 and quickly rose in popularity amongst the comic book crowds. As a literal demon from hell who was raised on Earth to help defend against evil forces alongside the B.P.R.D. (Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense), the character became more entrenched in pop culture because of his unique and unmistakable design. And because Hellboy does belong to a team like the B.P.R.D., you could introduce some of his more popular teammates from the series like Liz Sherman, Abe Sapien, Johann Kraus, and Lobster Johnson; characters that have a unique look that I think would compliment the world of Fortnite.
Invincible (Skybound Entertainment/Image Comics)
Unless you have been living under a rock the past few years, Invincible has leapt in popularity, making the jump from comic books to a widely popular Amazon Prime animated series, and even a future major film production. Introduced to comic books fan in 2003 by co-creator Robert Kirkman (of The Walking Dead fame), this character came out of the gates as hot as possible as fans were enthralled by the huge universe that was created around this character. Violent and with a deep lore that fans easily gobbled up the series, especially as the character was surrounded by a huge and engaging cast of supporting characters like Atom Eve, Omniman, Battle Beast, Duplikate, and others; all characters that I think would make great additions to the game. But there is no denying that due to the characters higher profile in the mainstream that Invincible wouldn’t make for a great collab.
Radiant Black (Image Comics)
Radiant Black is the newest comic book creation on this list. Created in 2021 and the cornerstone of the Massive-Verse section of Image Comics, Radiant Black makes this list not just because of how popular the character has been since being introduced, but because he is easily the most unique and intriguing character design that I think would perfectly compliment the look and feel of the Fortnite world. In terms of popularity and future potential, I would compare Radiant Black to the previous entry, Invincible, in terms of potential. And because the character is the center of his own universe within comics, you can add their associates like Radiant Red, Rogue Son, Inferno Girl Red, and Radiant Pink to round out a new collab set in game.
Savage Dragon (Image Comics)
Created in 1982 and debuting as one of the original 1992 line up after the formation of Image Comics, and created by Image co-founder Erik Larsen, the Savage Dragon quickly became a very popular character for those fans who followed the Image founders away from Marvel and DC. And you can easily see why. The Savage Dragon has this amazing look that just works for the character. And add in that the Dragon is a police officer in the Chicago P.D. and for the most of his run rejects joining any super hero groups, he had this amazing “loner” attitude that fans were attracted to. And the Dragon’s plentiful cast of supporting characters would also make for great skins in Fortnite including Mighty Man, Superpatriot, Dart, and the villainous Overlord.
Spawn (Image Comics)
Another of Image Comics’ debut line in 1992 and created by Image co-founder Todd McFarlane, Spawn has been one of the most popular characters in all of the comic book medium since he debut. And one look at the design of the character can easily explain that. But add in the amazing and fantastical story that Spawn encompasses, and you have the makings of a great character. But it is the look and design of the character that I want to focus on because I think it would be a great addition into the world of Fortnite. There is a reason that Spawn, along with Savage Dragon, has been continually published by Image since their 1992 debuts. And if you look at the cast of characters that live in the circle of Spawn’s publication, characters like The Violator, Overt-Kill, Nyx, and the Redeemer would be great fits in that game… even if they tread on more of the horror side in terms of aesthetics.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Mirage Studios/IDW Publishing)
Oh, come on! Do I really have to explain why the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles would make for great collab additions to the Fortnite meta? Ever since their debut in 1984, and especially since the debut of their extremely popular animated series in 1987, the TMNT have been an undeniable hit and cornerstone of pop culture. Their incredible look, the characterization of the group, the amazing story they are involved in… it’s been one hell of a run for them, and fans have enjoyed the ride ever since. Right off the bat, you could introduce all four Turtles (Leonardo, Michelangelo, Rafael, and Donatello) in one bundle. And you can even add in several of their supporting cast members including Casey Jones, Shredder, April O’Neil, Bebop & Rocksteady… hell, you could even through in the female turtles Jennika and Venus De Milo. But of all the collabs I am listing here, I think that the TMNT are the ones that are most overdue for a collab with Epic to be included into Fortnite.
The Boys (Dynamite Entertainment)
Okay, so having the characters from Dynamite Entertainment’s comic book series The Boys might be a long shot here. Not because the characters aren’t well known or popular, I mean just look at the hit show on Amazon Prime based on the series… then again, having a look at the series, it should be no surprise why The Boys would probably never come to Fortnite. The show is about as ultraviolent as you can get, and the comics, that originally debuted in 2006, are even more so. And I don’t know if Epic would feel comfortable with these characters in their game; a game decidedly aimed at teens. But, if The Boys ever did come to the Fortnite Island, I could see characters like Homelander, Queen Maeve, Billy Butcher, Starlight, A-Train, Black Noir; just to name a few. Like I said, this may never happen because of the content of The Boys franchise, but one can certainly wish, right?
Witchblade (Top Cow Productions/Image Comics)
Introduced to fans in 1995 and starring in a comic book series by Top Cow/Image Comics that began soon after, the Witchblade character has been one of my favorite characters in all of the Image Comics catalog. Yes, the character originally had a super sexualized design when she first debuted, but that has been lessened to a degree over the past decade. But what made the world of Witchblade a hot commodity more than anything was the wealth of interesting and marketable characters that inhabited that world. Yes, I would love to see either of the Witchblade characters (Sara Pezzini and Danielle Baptiste) in game, but other popular characters from the series like the Darkness, the Angelus, the Magdalena and more could fill out a good collab to introduce onto the Fortnite Island.
X (Comics’ Greatest World/Dark Horse Comics)
Okay, admittedly I know the least about the Dark Horse character of X than I do all the others on this list. But I have collected the comic book on and off since he was introduced back in 1993. His original series ran for just a pair of years before the series was revived again in 2013. But despite knowing less about X than I would like, one look at the character and you could see why, from a design and aesthetic standpoint, why I believe that the character would make a great fit for the Fortnite meta. The look is familiar yet unique, lending a lot to the design of the mask and the characters penchant for violence by marking his enemies with a slash. A definite antihero in every word, from a pure design standpoint, I think that X would make for an interesting character to collab with for the game.
And there you have, 10 non Marvel or DC comic collabs I want in Fortnite. Were you familiar with any of these comic book properties? Were some of these completely new to you? Let me know down in the comments and talk about which non Marvel or DC characters you would like to see in that game. Stay safe and take care my friends. And I will hopefully see you next time.
